The Volta River Authority (VRA) on Thursday May 14th, 2026 donated 6,000 branded exercise books and 500 Mathematical Sets to selected basic schools in the South Tongu District. The donation ceremony, held at Sokpoe D/A Basic School, was attended by representatives from the District Education Directorate, Heads of the Beneficiary Schools, Schools Management Committees – SMC, Parent-Teacher Association Executives – PTA, Opinion Leaders, South Tongu District Assembly Staffs & Assembly Members led by the District Chief Executive, Victoria Dzeklo.
The beneficiary schools include Sokpoe DA, Tefle DA, New Agave, Fievie EP, and Vume DA Basic Schools. The exercise books incorporate energy conservation messages designed to foster environmental literacy among students alongside their core academic studies.
Mrs. Rhoda Arthur, Principal Community Relations Officer of VRA, stated that the donation forms part of the Authority’s broader educational support initiatives aimed at safeguarding the future of the next generations, and intended to yield measurable improvements in the lives of people within the VRA’s operational areas.
She expressed hope that the numerous educational and other social interventions to communities in their operational areas would yield the needed results in improving the lives of the people. “We strongly believe that education is the only foundation on which opportunities can be created to impact on our communities,’’ Mrs Arthur stated.
Hon Victoria Dzeklo, District Chief Executive for South Tongu, received the items on behalf of the Assembly. She noted that the intervention would significantly ease the financial burden on parents and complement government efforts to enhance teaching and learning. The DCE further highlighted that two students from the district are currently pursuing tertiary education under the VRA scholarship scheme.
The items were formally handed over to the Head of the District Education Planning Unit, Mr. Elorm Golo, who acknowledged the VRA’s continuous support in maintaining educational standards across the district.
