A child protection organization in Ghana has warned that traffickers are allegedly using social media, particularly TikTok, to recruit girls for commercial sexual exploitation.
According to Challenging Heights, girls in the country’s mining communities are increasingly being targeted, including some under the age of 16.
The warning follows a recent operation in which police rescued 47 people from sexual exploitation in six communities in the southwestern Ahafo Region, close to the border with Côte d’Ivoire.
Many of the victims were foreign nationals, particularly Nigerians, with sixteen of them under 18 years.
