The Head of the Civil Engineering Department of Ho Technical University, Ing Dr Mrs Patricia Asantewaa-Tannor, has advised parents, especially mothers, to invest in their daughters’ education instead of spending money on funeral clothes.
She gave the advice in an interview with the Daily Newsflash on the sidelines of a workshop organized by CAAF Ghana to train rice farmers on how to convert rice waste into biocharcoal. The training was led by female civil engineering students of Ho Technical University.
Commenting on the performance of the students, Dr. Tano said every parent would be proud to see their daughter acquire such skills and train others. She therefore urged mothers to channel resources used for funeral clothes and parties into educating their female children.
She also advised the trainees to put into practice what they have learnt to improve their livelihoods and promote sustainable farming practices.
Dr. Tano commended CAAF Ghana for the initiative, saying she was excited that after seeing some of the students’ project work on social media, CAAF Ghana approached the department and arranged the workshop. She further commended the Clean Air Fund for financing the workshop.
She added that Ho Technical University is performing well and its doors are open to all who seek further education, noting that lecturers are ready to take students through various skills training programmes to shape their future.
