Members of Parliament from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) serving on the Health Committee have formally petitioned the Minority Leadership to take disciplinary action against Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central and current NPP presidential aspirant, due to remarks he made regarding their recent visit to the Afari Military Hospital.
In a petition dated June 18, 2026, the MPs accused Mr. Agyapong of displaying “anti-party conduct” following his public criticism of the committee’s visit to the health facility on June 10 in the Ashanti Region.
The petition alleges that Mr. Agyapong labeled the visit as “unwarranted” and made statements that allegedly contradicted established facts about the hospital’s operational status and readiness.
Led by Ranking Member Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, the Health Committee delegation visited the Afari Military Hospital to assess healthcare challenges in the Ashanti Region, particularly those impacting the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The visit garnered public attention after military personnel reportedly barred the MPs from entering the facility, leading to a confrontation.
In response to the incident on public platforms, Mr. Agyapong questioned the rationale for the visit, raising concerns among committee members.
The petitioners emphasized that the visit was neither unauthorized nor unilateral, as it had received approval from the Minority Leader, the Minority Chief Whip, and the Deputy Chief Whip.
They argued that Mr. Agyapong’s comments unfairly discredited a collective parliamentary initiative undertaken in the public interest and in alignment with the objectives of the NPP.
The MPs further asserted that his remarks constituted misinformation and had the potential to mislead the public on an issue of national importance.
They cautioned that failure to address the matter could undermine party discipline, weaken the authority of the Minority Leadership, and create a “Pandora’s Box for indiscipline.”
According to the petition, prolonged public disagreements over the issue could also harm the party’s preparations for the 2028 general elections by diverting attention from national issues to internal disputes.
Consequently, the committee members are requesting the Minority Leadership to publicly reprimand Mr. Agyapong and refer the matter to the appropriate party organs for further deliberation and guidance.
Copies of the petition were forwarded to the NPP Flagbearer, the General Secretary, and the Council of Elders.
