Two brothers, Felix Dogbey, 18, and Christian Dogbey, 25, have tragically drowned in an abandoned quarry lake located between Live Donorkope and the Catholic Secretariat in the Akatsi South Municipality.
The heartbreaking incident reportedly occurred on Friday, May 15, at about 4:00 PM when the two brothers attempted to rescue their nine-year-old brother, Eric Dogbey, who was drowning in the lake.
According to Mr. Daniel Gidi, the Akatsi South Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation, Felix successfully rescued the younger brother but sadly drowned in the process. Christian also lost his life after attempting to save Felix.
The deceased, who hailed from Akatsi Alagbokope but resided at Asikuma, had travelled to Live Donorkope with friends for a funeral.
Initial rescue efforts by local divers were unsuccessful until officers from the Naval Training Command were invited to assist. The bodies of the deceased later surfaced on Sunday morning and were deposited at the St. Paul’s Hospital morgue by personnel from the Akatsi Police Command pending autopsy.
