On May 12, 2026, twelve inmates from Ghana’s Senior Correctional Centre successfully defended their youth category title at the Second Continental Online Chess Championships for Prisoners.
Competing against participants from six other African nations( Kenya, Nigeria, Malawi, Madagascar, Eswatini, and Zimbabwe), the team demonstrated remarkable intellectual excellence and strategic discipline.
This achievement highlights the success of the Ghana Prisons Service’s rehabilitation programs, which use chess to foster critical thinking and positive transformation.
