Reports indicate that journalist Noah Adamtey, popularly known as Noah Dameh, who was previously jailed over allegations of publishing “false news,” has died in 2023 before his trial could resume.
Dameh, a former Deputy Station Coordinator at Radio Ada, was sentenced to 10 months in prison over a publication alleging police abuse involving a case linked to businessman Daniel McKorley (McDan).
He had been a vocal critic of the ElectroChem salt mining concession, where he reported on alleged impacts of the project on local artisanal miners and claims of human rights abuses by security personnel.
Following his publication, a complaint was filed by ElectroChem Ghana Limited. Authorities later stated the report was false and claimed the story, which included McKorley’s image, posed a risk to his safety.
According to reports by the Media Foundation for West Africa, Dameh allegedly suffered serious health challenges while in custody and was reportedly denied access to medication for his chronic condition.
His health is said to have deteriorated significantly after his release, and he passed away in September 2023, just days before his court case was scheduled to continue.
