UK-based TikToker Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as ‘Ghana Jollof’, has dared the Government of Ghana to extradite her from the United Kingdom after being declared wanted by the Ghana Police Service.
Ms Kodua is wanted over alleged incitement of violence and publication of false news. According to police, she uses a TikTok account named “Ghana Jollof” to make offensive, inciting comments and publish false information likely to cause fear and alarm, including claims of an attempted coup d’état against President John Mahama.
Responding in a TikTok interview, she said the extradition would not succeed.
“I dare the government of Ghana that if they can use extradition to bring me from the country that I reside in to Ghana, they can’t. No law will allow them to extradite me,” she stated.
She argued that UK authorities would not extradite her if it amounted to political persecution, adding she would only return to Ghana voluntarily.
Meanwhile, the Police have remanded Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Awity Baffoe at the Adenta Circuit Court for allegedly facilitating the spread of content from the Ghana Jollof account. The Police claim they have uncovered financial transactions linking the nurse to the TikToker and some high-profile persons.
However, ‘Ghana Jollof’ has denied knowing the nurse personally, saying the nurse is not active on social media and questioning the motive for her arrest. She alleged the arrest is political because the nurse’s husband, who lives outside Ghana, is an active member of the opposition NPP.
The Police maintain that investigations are ongoing.
