Renowned Pan-Africanist and anti-corruption crusader, Professor PLO Lumumba, has said Africa’s continued dependence on foreign powers is a betrayal of the vision of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
According to him, Nkrumah envisaged a self-reliant and united Africa capable of managing its own political and economic affairs, but the continent still relies heavily on external powers for aid, loans and direction.
Prof Lumumba made the remarks in an address reported on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
He argued that despite attaining political independence, many African nations have failed to achieve true economic independence and continue to seek solutions outside the continent instead of strengthening intra-African trade and unity.
