SEFWI SAYERANO – The Minister of the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, and the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who is also MP for Sefwi Juaboso, have visited Sefwi Sayerano following a police shooting incident that left two people dead and three others injured.
On July 7, 2026, personnel from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Command stormed the Sefwi Sayerano community to arrest a suspected drug peddler.
According to reports, the suspect was severely beaten during the arrest, prompting some residents to intervene. The situation escalated when police officers allegedly opened fire indiscriminately. Five people were shot, with two dying instantly.
In the aftermath, eight police personnel alleged to be involved in the shooting have been interdicted pending investigations.
Addressing the community, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak commiserated with the bereaved families and victims receiving treatment. He urged residents to remain calm to allow for a thorough investigation.
The Interior Minister also announced key government interventions: the construction of a police station in Sefwi Sayerano and the allocation of police recruitment slots to families who lost relatives as compensation.
> “Justice will be served without fear or favour. The right thing will be done,” he assured the community.
On his part, Health Minister and Sefwi Juaboso MP, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, described the incident as unfortunate and pledged to do everything within his power to ensure justice for the affected families.
> “We must maintain calm. This must not happen again,” he said.
The ministers also visited victims of the shooting who are currently receiving medical care.
The incident has sparked calls for improved police conduct and stronger community relations in the area.
