KOFORIDUA, Eastern Region – Officers of the Narcotics Control Commission [NACOC] have arrested 10 students of Koforidua Technical University [KTU] for their alleged involvement in the production and sale of cannabis-infused drinks and ice cream.

The arrests were made during the Students’ Representative Council [SRC] Hall Week celebrations on the university campus.

According to NACOC, intelligence gathered indicated that some students were packaging and selling the intoxicating products to their colleagues during the week-long event. A swoop led to the arrest of the 10 suspects.

Items suspected to contain cannabis, including bottled drinks and cups of ice cream, were retrieved from the suspects and have been sent to a laboratory for forensic analysis.

NACOC says the suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations and will be processed for court in line with the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 [Act 1019].

The university management has assured of its cooperation with NACOC and has cautioned students against engaging in activities that breach the law and the school’s code of conduct.

The Commission has also warned the public to desist from the production and sale of cannabis-infused products, stating that such acts remain illegal in Ghana.
