ACCRA, Ghana – The Economic Community of West African States [ECOWAS] is set to donate US$250,000, equivalent to about GH₵3 million, to support victims of Ghana’s recent devastating floods.
The announcement was made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a Facebook post on.
According to the Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially been notified by ECOWAS of the donation, which is earmarked to provide relief to communities and individuals affected by the floods.
Funds to be Transferred to Relevant Authorities
Hon. Ablakwa assured the public of transparency in handling the funds.
“In the interest of transparency and accountability, the ministry will transfer the full amount to the appropriate authorities immediately after the funds are received in its accounts,” he stated.
Government Expresses Appreciation
On behalf of the Government of Ghana, the Ministry expressed profound appreciation to ECOWAS for what it described as “solidarity and genuine African compassion” during the difficult period.
The floods, which displaced thousands and destroyed homes, farmlands, and infrastructure in parts of the country, have prompted both local and international calls for support to aid recovery efforts.
Government says it is working with NADMO, local assemblies, and development partners to ensure relief items and funds reach affected persons swiftly.
