The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has called on members of the Muslim community within the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to uphold the virtues of humility, sacrifice, discipline and compassion in the discharge of their duties as they celebrate this year’s Eid-ul-Adha.
This call was contained in a message delivered on behalf of the CDS by a member of the Al-Aziz Central Mosque, Mallam Adam Abulbashar Saeed, during a special Eid-ul-Adha ceremony held on Wednesday, 27 May 2026 at the Al-Aziz Central Mosque in Burma Camp.
In the goodwill message, Lt Gen Agyapong congratulated all Muslim faithful for witnessing the celebration and urged them to remember the importance of compassion, generosity obedience, devotion, service to humanity, particularly towards the less privileged through acts of sacrifice and sharing as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim, adding that such values help strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and unity.
He emphasised that the teachings of Eid-ul-Adha should inspire personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces to continue safeguarding the peace, security and territorial integrity of the nation with loyalty, selflessness and professionalism.
Lt Gen Agyapong further urged the congregation to remember personnel serving on international peace support operations and internal security duties in their prayers and asked for Allah’s continued protection and guidance for them. He also called for prayers for peace, stability and progress in Ghana and wished all Muslim faithful a peaceful and blessed Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
Delivering a sermon on the theme “The Day of Sacrifice and Redemption,” the Imam at the Army Headquarters, Major Shamsudeen Salifu, described Eid-ul-Adha as a symbol of faith, obedience and sacrifice and recounted the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim and his son Ismail, highlighting their willingness to submit to Allah’s command during the test of sacrifice.
Maj Salifu encouraged the congregation to remain steadfast in their faith, uphold Islamic values and contribute meaningfully towards unity, discipline and dedicated service within the Armed Forces and the wider society.
