Nearly 200 rice farmers across the South Tongu Constituency have received rice seedlings from Hon. Maxwell K. Lukutor as part of efforts to boost rice production during the current farming season. The intervention is aimed at increasing local food production and improving the productivity of farmers within the constituency.
In addition to the distribution of rice seedlings, the support package also includes subsidized tractor services to assist farmers in preparing new lands for cultivation. The initiative is expected to reduce the burden on farmers while encouraging the expansion of rice farming activities in the area ahead of the season’s peak farming period.
The event saw the DCE Hon Victoria Dzeklo and other executives of the area in attendance.
The beneficiary farmers expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament, Maxwell Kwame Lukutor for what they described as a timely intervention. Despite challenges faced during the previous season due to low market prices caused by excess produce, the farmers remained hopeful of better pricing conditions this year. Discussions were also held on acquiring land for the establishment of a National Buffer Stock warehouse to help store surplus produce in future farming seasons and prevent post harvest losses.
