A legal representative for the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana, Mr. Nana Kofi Kantanka, has articulated the mission’s perspective regarding the shooting incident involving the former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Ms. Sarah Adwoa Safo. He emphasized that the gunfire consisted of warning shots intended to prevent her from entering a private residence during an installation ceremony.
This incident, which transpired on Sunday, June 21, has garnered significant public interest following reports that Ms. Adwoa Safo sustained a gunshot injury to her left ear.
According to available information, the former legislator visited the Kwabenya residence of her brother, Mr. Israel Kwadwo Safo, who was being officially inducted as the new leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission following the demise of the mission’s founder, Mr. Kwadwo Safo.
In an interview with Joy News, Mr. Nana Kofi Kantanka refuted claims that the gunfire was intended to harm Ms. Adwoa Safo.
He alleged that the security personnel at the venue discharged warning shots after the former MP purportedly attempted to forcibly enter the premises with her vehicle, notwithstanding prior warnings.
“There are two gates, the northern gate and the southern gate. A loud bang was heard at the southern gate, which surprised those present. The sound repeated, revealing that a car was attempting to breach the gate. It was then identified as Ms. Adwoa Safo inside the vehicle.
“She subsequently approached the northern gate and continued to collide with it. The security team informed her that her actions could lead to casualties, as there were still individuals on the premises. Entering with a vehicle posed a risk to anyone in the vicinity. Consequently, warning shots were fired to deter her from entering the residence with her car.”
Mr. Kantanka’s remarks reflect the Kristo Asafo Mission’s account of the events. At the time of publication, neither Ms. Adwoa Safo nor the Ghana Police Service had issued a public response to the allegations. Investigations into the incident are anticipated to proceed.
