A primary school teacher in Kasungu, Malawi, has been arrested for allegedly forging his own death documents in a bid to have his outstanding bank loan cancelled.
According to reports, the teacher submitted fake official documents to the bank, claiming he had died. The bank, sympathising with his supposed family, cancelled the loan.
However, four years later, the teacher returned to the same bank to apply for another loan.
His application triggered an alert in the bank’s system, which still had him flagged as deceased. The discrepancy raised suspicion and led to his arrest after investigations confirmed he had falsified his death.
Police say he will be charged with forgery and fraud.
