The sister of late Innocentia Avinu, known online as “Rye”, has made a public appeal to Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak and the Ghana Police Service for an update on the investigation into her sibling’s killing.
The appeal
In an open letter shared on TikTok alongside details of Innocentia’s funeral scheduled for August 29–30, Rye said the family has received no formal update since the Police Service’s last statement on June 15, 2026.
She added that on July 22, the family was verbally told to proceed with the burial but was not given any written explanation.
> “The Ghana Police Service released its last official statement on June 15, 2026, and since then, our family has been left entirely in the dark.
> Justice in Ghana should not be a one-week wonder that disappears the moment social media moves on to the next trend.
> Every citizen’s life has value, and every family deserves closure,” she wrote.
Call for action
Rye also questioned whether the IGP’s Special Team assigned to the case has adequate resources to pursue it, and urged Minister Muntaka to personally intervene to ensure progress.
The family says it is seeking closure and transparency as they prepare to lay Innocentia to rest later this month.
The Ghana Police Service is yet to issue a new statement on the case.
