The government has committed to unlocking GH¢6 billion in affordable financing by 2027 to support a minimum of 100,000 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) throughout Ghana.

This commitment was announced during the 2026 MSME Day Celebration, which took place at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra. The event was organized by the Ghana Enterprises Agency in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, under the theme: “Human-Centered Entrepreneurship in an AI-Driven Future: Economic Empowerment for the Next Generation of MSMEs.”

Hon. Roosevelt Alexander Hotordze, Member of Parliament for Central Tongu and Chairman of Parliament’s Committee on Trade, Industry, and Tourism, participated in the event and emphasized the critical role of MSMEs as the backbone of Ghana’s economy.

He highlighted that MSMEs constitute over 90% of registered businesses, provide approximately 80% of employment, and contribute nearly 70% to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

A significant feature of the celebration was the launch of the MSME Digital Gateway, a new platform aimed at assisting small businesses in transitioning to digital operations and thriving in an AI-driven future.

Hon. Hotordze indicated that the GH¢6 billion financing package will prioritize enterprises led by women and youth, and he assured attendees that his Committee will persist in advocating for policies that facilitate MSMEs’ access to credit, markets, and technology.

“To every trader, artisan, and young entrepreneur in Central Tongu and across Ghana: this is your time. The government is creating an enabling environment for you to grow and generate employment,” he stated.

Stakeholders expressed their support for these initiatives, describing them as timely measures to strengthen Ghana’s MSME ecosystem.
