The Inspector-General of Police has dispatched a Special Operations Support Team to the Nkwanta South Municipality in the Oti Region, in response to a recent outbreak of violence resulting in fatalities and injuries.
This deployment is part of urgent measures to restore order and enhance security in the area following the attacks, which have caused concern among the local residents.
According to an official statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor, the special unit was deployed from the National Police Headquarters in Accra on June 20, 2026.
The team has been assigned the task of reinforcing existing local security operations, restoring public order, and supporting ongoing investigations to determine the cause of the violence and identify those responsible.
The Ghana Police Service has intensified its presence throughout the affected municipality to ensure the safety of residents and prevent further incidents.
Regional authorities have assured the public of continued security patrols and close monitoring of the situation as part of efforts to stabilize the area.
“The public is urged to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel, and provide credible information that may assist ongoing investigations,” the statement noted, emphasizing the importance of community support in achieving lasting peace.
