The Government has successfully obtained a crucial Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Permit Attainment Certificate for the proposed Keta Port Project, representing a significant advancement in the pursuit of one of Ghana’s most strategic infrastructure initiatives.
This development was announced by the Volta Regional Minister, Honorable James Gunu, following a stakeholder engagement on the project held at the Lagoon Beach Hotel.
As part of the activities associated with this engagement, the Minister, along with the Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Major General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, paid a courtesy visit to the Awomefia of Anlo State, Togbe Sri III, before joining chiefs, policymakers, and development stakeholders to discuss the project’s progress.
Honorable Gunu characterized the issuance of the environmental permit as a significant breakthrough that paves the way for the next phase of the Keta Port Project’s implementation.
He reiterated the government’s commitment, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, to fulfilling key development promises made to the people of the Volta Region.
According to him, the Keta Port Project is anticipated to serve as a major catalyst for economic transformation in the region, with the potential to create employment opportunities, enhance trade, and stimulate long-term growth.
He further emphasized that upon completion, the initiative will establish the Volta Region as a vital maritime and logistics hub, making a substantial contribution to national development.
The Minister expressed gratitude to traditional leaders, Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), civil society organizations, and residents who participated in the stakeholder engagement.
He noted that their contributions and support are vital to the successful implementation of the project, which he described as both historic and transformational.
Honorable Gunu reaffirmed that the government will continue to collaborate closely with all stakeholders to ensure the successful realization of the Keta Port Project for the benefit of current and future generations.
