Following the unfortunate incident at the C4 section of the Akuse Rice Farms, the Technical Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr. Daniel Teye, has urgently called for measures to enhance safety in the region.
Mr. Teye has reported that initial investigations suggest the victims were attempting to cross a bridge that had been submerged by floodwaters due to heavy rainfall. The unexpected surge in water levels is believed to have swept the vehicle away, prompting the ongoing search for the missing individuals.
During his visit to the site, Mr. Teye underscored the necessity for a more robust and resilient bridge to accommodate both motorists and farmers who utilize the route daily. He noted that the current structure poses a significant risk whenever water levels rise, endangering lives and economic activities within the farming enclave.
He further highlighted the significance of the area as an important agricultural zone, asserting that a properly engineered bridge would not only enhance safety but also facilitate the movement of farmers, workers, and goods throughout the year.
As search and rescue operations continue, residents are also appealing to the government, district authorities, and relevant agencies to prioritize the construction of a durable bridge to avert future tragedies.
This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the critical need to invest in resilient infrastructure, particularly in farming communities where roads and bridges are vital to livelihoods and public safety.
