The National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTA) has advocated for the dismissal, prosecution, and permanent exclusion from the teaching profession of a teacher at Bole Senior High School in the Savannah Region due to allegations of sexual misconduct involving a female student.
This demand arises following the circulation of a viral video purportedly depicting the teacher in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student, a situation that has sparked widespread public condemnation and renewed concerns about student safety in Ghanaian schools.
In an interview with Citi News, the General Secretary of the NCPTA, Mr. Raphael Kofi Gapson, characterized the alleged conduct as a gross breach of trust and a violation of the ethical standards expected of educators.
“We consider it a betrayal of trust and a crime against humanity. We strongly advocate for the prosecution, dismissal, and removal of the offender from the Ghana Education Service (GES). He should be prohibited from utilizing his National Teaching Council Certificate for employment,” Mr. Gapson asserted.
He further stated that, should investigations substantiate the allegations, the teacher should not only be terminated from his position but also have his professional license revoked by the National Teaching Council (NTC), effectively barring him from teaching in any educational institution in Ghana.
The NCPTA’s call follows the announcement by the Ghana Education Service (GES) of the teacher’s interdiction pending investigations into the matter. In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 16, the GES reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on sexual misconduct and assured the public that the case would be handled with the utmost seriousness.
Mr. Gapson also urged the GES to rigorously enforce its Sexual Harassment Guidelines, emphasizing that existing policies provide sufficient measures for preventing and addressing sexual abuse in schools.
“We also urge the GES to implement the GES Sexual Harassment Guidelines to safeguard our children within our schools,” he stated.
