HEALTH MINISTER AND VOLTA REGIONAL MINISTER LAUNCH FREE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE PROGRAM IN VOLTA REGION

The Minister for Health and Member of Parliament for Juaboso Constituency, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, together with the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, paid a courtesy call on the Asogli Traditional Council as part of activities marking the launch of the Free Primary Health Care Program in the Volta Region.
The visit was to officially inform the Chiefs and Elders about government’s mission in the region and to seek their support and blessings towards the successful implementation of the initiative. The engagement provided an opportunity for traditional authorities to share their views and expectations regarding the policy and healthcare delivery in Ghana.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Asogli State, the Chief of Ho-Heve, Togbui Anikpi III, welcomed the initiative and commended government for prioritizing accessible healthcare for citizens.
Later in the day, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Hon. James Gunu engaged stakeholders at the Residency Conference Room, where the Free Primary Health Care Program was officially launched and medical equipment handed over to support healthcare delivery in the region.
In his welcome address, Hon. James Gunu commended the Health Minister for championing government’s efforts to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system and advance primary healthcare delivery across the country.
He noted that primary healthcare remains the foundation of a resilient health system and stressed that the initiative will help improve health outcomes, reduce inequalities in healthcare access, and support Ghana’s drive towards Universal Health Coverage. He further called for collective support from all stakeholders to ensure the sustainability and success of the policy.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh re-emphasized the importance of primary healthcare in national development and urged institutions, stakeholders, and citizens to embrace and support the policy through active participation and public education.
The event brought together several distinguished personalities, including the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Senanu Dzokoto; the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Caroline Reindorf Amissah; the Executive Director of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Dr. Peter Yeboah; the Chief Director of the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council, Alhaji Mohammed Avorna Akape; and the Member of Parliament for Agotime-Ziope Constituency, Hon. Charles Agbeve, among other dignitaries and stakeholders.
