The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Ghana has commended the Blood Bank of the Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) for excellence in safety and quality following a comprehensive two-day regulatory assessment of the facility.
The critical audit was aimed at evaluating the facility against mandatory statutory requirements, rigorous operational standards, and the effective implementation of its Quality Management System (QMS).
During the exercise, FDA assessors thoroughly scrutinized all operational workflows, with a sharp focus on safety, quality control and compliance in the collection, preparation, handling and distribution of blood and blood products. The assessment involved structural inspection, in-depth documentation review and strict process verification.
Positive Feedback
At a formal exit briefing with the Hospital’s Executive Management, the FDA team delivered overwhelmingly positive feedback.
The Authority highly commended the visible and proactive efforts of the Hospital management and the Blood Bank staff in maintaining infrastructure and operational preparedness. It also noted that clinical routines and standard operating procedures for blood product preparation were in strong alignment with required national baseline standards.
The audit further recognized outstanding cross-departmental collaboration and strategic community engagement initiatives that reinforce blood safety and supply sustainability.
While praising current practices, the FDA issued recommendations to address observed gaps, streamline QMS protocols and optimize systemic quality controls.
Management of the Hospital accepted the findings and pledged full compliance, assuring the FDA that corrective measures would be put in place immediately and that all recommendations would be implemented within the stipulated regulatory period to maintain the highest standards of patient safety and care.
