President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in a new Independent Fiscal Council to help strengthen Ghana’s economy and restore public financial discipline.
The five-member independent body was established under the Public Financial Management (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1136), and is mandated to scrutinise government spending, monitor debt sustainability and ensure transparency in public resource management.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, President Mahama said fiscal responsibility must not be seen as just a statutory requirement, but as a moral obligation to present and future generations.
He urged members of the Council to work based on evidence and in the national interest, free from political bias.
