The General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Thomas Musah, has revealed that inadequate funding for basic education is forcing some teachers and headteachers to use their own salaries to keep schools running.
According to him, teachers and school heads in some basic schools are compelled to dip into their personal resources to provide essential teaching and learning materials to ensure academic work continues.
He lamented that the situation is putting undue financial pressure on teachers who are already facing economic challenges, and called for urgent government intervention to adequately resource basic education.
