Mark 4:37-38 – “And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?”
MORAL LESSON
Notice this: The storm did not come before they started the journey. It came AFTER they took a step to the other side for a mission.
This is life!
Whenever you decide to move to the next level, prepare for the next devil. The storm always rises to test the decision.
The time you plan to marry, the storm will arise.
When you plan to start that business, the storm will arise.
When you plan to build that house, learn that skill, go back to school, or move to a new level – PREPARE, the storm is coming.
Friends will fight you, family will misunderstand you, society will disagree with you. They will do everything to make sure you never reach your destination.
BUT HERE ARE THREE DEEP LESSONS FROM THIS STORY:
1. Don’t Sleep After You Plan.
After Jesus made the plan to cross over, He went to sleep. Many of us are like that. After we make a beautiful plan, we relax and think everything will be smooth automatically. No!
Be alert! The storm didn’t arise when Jesus was awake and teaching, it arose when He was asleep. The enemy attacks when you become careless and relaxed after taking a major decision. After you plan, PRAY. After you decide, STAY ALERT.
2. Your Skill Cannot Save You, Only Jesus Can.
The disciples were professional fishermen. They knew how to swim, they knew how to handle a stormy sea. They could have jumped and tried to save themselves. But they didn’t trust their own skill. They ran to wake Jesus up.
Sometimes we have our own ways and connections to solve our problems, but the question is: Is it God’s way? Does it please God? In tough situations, don’t just depend on your certificates, your money, or your friends. Call on Jesus and involve Him in the boat of your life.
3. Hold On To His Word.
Jesus had already said, “Let us go to the OTHER SIDE.” He didn’t say we will perish in the middle. If He said you will get to the other side, you will get there, no matter the storm. The storm may fill your boat with water, but it cannot sink a boat that carries Jesus.
SO WHAT SHOULD WE DO WHEN THE STORM COMES?
1. Expect it: Don’t be shocked when challenges come after a big decision. It is proof you are moving.
2. Stay Awake: Be spiritually and physically vigilant. Don’t be lazy after planning.
3. Wake Him Up: Don’t struggle alone in silence. Call on Jesus in prayer. Invite Him into your business, your marriage, your education plan.
4. Trust His Word: If He said you will make it to the other side, you WILL make it. The storm is only a passage, not your destination.
Your boat may be full of water, but as long as Jesus is in your boat, you will not sink!
