The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) Mpakadan Rail Terminal is gearing up to commence freight operations, with special access-road expansion works currently ongoing at the facility.
The works are being undertaken in collaboration with the Asuogyaman District Assembly and other stakeholders to provide rapid access to the N2 Eastern Corridor Road.
Progress on infrastructure works
The GRDA Project Development Directorate, led by Ing. Nana Owusu Ansah, and all partner institutions have been commended for the progress achieved within just a few weeks.
Container and cargo operations to begin next week
Container and cargo operations to Mpakadan are scheduled to commence next week.
The development will enable cargo to move by rail from Tema Harbour to Mpakadan for onward movement through the Eastern Corridor towards Buipe, northern Ghana and the Sahel.
The terminal is also expected to create local opportunities in terminal operations, security, warehousing and logistics.
According to stakeholders, the commencement of operations marks another step in bringing the Volta Economic Corridor to life.
