The Dorfor Queen Mothers Union has embarked on a 2-day capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening the role of Queen Mothers in community development and social advocacy.
The training, organized by Mama Afibaa Agbovi V, Queen Mother of Dorfor Podoe, has brought together Queen Mothers from across Dorfor to deliberate on leadership, conflict resolution, and partnerships for local development. A registrar from the Regional House of Chiefs is facilitating sessions during the workshop.
Defining the role of Queen Mothers in development
According to Mama Agbovi, the workshop is designed to equip every Queen Mother with a clear understanding of her responsibilities in community development.
“This workshop will help every Queen Mother to know her role when it comes to development so that they can also assist their chiefs in developmental agendas,” she said.
She noted that Queen Mothers play a vital role in mobilizing women, youth, and the entire community to support education, health, sanitation, and other developmental initiatives.
Mama Agbovi also called for unity among traditional leaders.
She urged them to “come together as one and work towards the progress of Dorfor, Tongu, and the Volta Region as a whole.”
Focus on youth values and teenage pregnancy
In her address, Mama Alovi Magbeza II, Queen Mother of Dorfor Agoveme, raised concerns about indecent dressing and the rising cases of teenage pregnancy among young girls.
She called on all Queen Mothers to take a leading role in educating the youth on the long-term effects of such behavior on their future.
She urged Queen Mothers to make it a mandate to combat indecent conduct among young people and to promote values that will safeguard the dignity and prospects of the girl child.
Deliberations and partnerships
Participants are expected to deliberate on leadership, conflict resolution, advocacy, and how traditional authorities can partner with government and NGOs to drive development at the local level.
The Dorfor Queen Mothers Union said the workshop forms part of broader efforts to position traditional leaders, especially women, at the center of grassroots development and social change in North Tongu and the Volta Region.
