The Nkwawie Divisional Police Command in the Ashanti Region has arrested a 25-year-old man, Francis Nsiah, in connection with an attempted armed robbery on the Hiakose-Nweneso stretch in the Manso Nkwanta District.

How the arrest happened
The arrest followed an operation led by ASP Noah Yakpa and his team after police received information about an armed robbery in progress.

The incident occurred on Friday, August 7, 2026, at about 11:00 p.m., when the Nkwawie Divisional Operations Patrol Team was alerted that armed robbers were operating on the road between Hiakose and Nweneso.

ASP Yakpa and his team responded immediately. Upon approaching the scene, officers heard gunshots and spotted one of the suspected robbers fleeing into a nearby bush with a bag.

The officers pursued the suspect. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of an iPhone 14 and a bag believed to belong to some of the victims.

Suspect tracked to hospital
Police later received information that one of the suspected robbers had sought medical treatment at a health facility for gunshot wounds.

ASP Yakpa and his team proceeded to the facility, where they arrested Nsiah, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his buttock.

He is currently under police guard and receiving medical treatment.

Investigation ongoing
The Ashanti Regional Police Command said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify and arrest other persons who may have been involved.
