The Volta Region recorded no entry in the list of Ghana’s 10 most visited tourist attractions for 2025, according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
The Minister, Hon. Dzifa Gomashie, disclosed the figures during the ministry’s accountability series.
Top 10 attractions attract the majority of visitors
According to the breakdown, a combined total of 1,377,588 visitors accounted for 77% of all tourism visits across the country last year.
The top 10 most visited attractions for 2025 are:
1. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park
2. Kakum National Park
3. Bonsu Arboretum/Eco Park
4. Cape Coast Castle
5. Manhyia Palace
6. Kumasi Zoo
7. Accra Zoo
8. Elmina Castle
9. Shai Hills Resource Reserve
10. Aburi Botanical Gardens
The list was dominated by sites in the Greater Accra, Central, Ashanti and Eastern Regions, with heritage, wildlife and eco-tourism sites leading visitor numbers.
Call for regional tourism boost
The absence of any Volta Region attraction on the list has sparked discussions on the need to invest more in marketing, infrastructure and product development to position the region’s tourism sites, including Wli Falls, Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, and the Volta Lake, to compete nationally.
Stakeholders have called on the Ministry, regional authorities and the private sector to work together to improve accessibility and promotion of tourist sites in the Volta Region.
