AKYEM BATABI, EASTERN REGION – A 40-year-old man, identified as Yaw Nyarko, has died after he was allegedly attacked by the brother of a woman he was accused of attempting to rape.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning at Akyem Batabi in the Asene Manso Akroso District of the Eastern Region.

According to reports, the victim, Celina Gbafa, 35, was returning from the farm when she was allegedly struck from behind with a stick.

She told her brother, Bismarck Gbafa, 28, that the suspect attempted to assault her. Celina said she struggled with the attacker and managed to escape with her farm items in a pan.

Bismarck Gbafa told police he confronted Yaw Nyarko after his sister reported the incident. A fight ensued during which the suspect was allegedly butchered to death.

Bismarck Gbafa is currently in police custody at Akyem Oda assisting with investigations.

Police sources also allege that Yaw Nyarko was on a wanted list at the Akyem Manso Police Station in connection with a separate case of stealing.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at a morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The Asene Manso Akroso District Police Command has confirmed the incident and says investigations are ongoing to establish the full facts of the case.

Authorities are urging the public to allow due process and report crimes to the police rather than take the law into their own hands.
