TECHIMAN – Students of Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Techiman staged a demonstration last night and have vowed to continue the protest this morning over multiple grievances.
The students say they have been agitating over several issues, including remaining in school while other training institutions are on vacation.
A major concern raised is feeding. The students allege that since the new principal assumed office, breakfast has not been served despite the fact that they pay GHS 1,700.00 for feeding.
They also complained about changes to meal times.
According to them, lunch, which used to be served at 1:00 PM, is now served at 3:00 PM. Supper, previously served at 3:00 PM, has now been moved to 8:00 PM.
Perhaps the most pressing issue, the students say, is the lack of an academic calendar.
They allege that the principal schedules mid-semester and end-of-semester exams “at will,” making it impossible for them to plan their studies.
> “There are many issues in the nursing training schools and the head of these schools at the Ministry of Health, Ghana must not only put his ears on the ground but act on what he picks up.”
The students are calling on the Ministry of Health and relevant authorities to intervene urgently.
