ACCRA – Educator and media personality Kofi Tei has criticised the Ghana Education Service (GES) for charging thousands of applicants GH¢25 to check the status of their recruitment applications.
He described the fee as an unjustified burden on unemployed graduates who have already waited months for the recruitment process.
According to Kofi Tei, it is unfair for applicants to pay just to find out whether they have been recruited.
> “If no compelling justification is provided, all applicants who paid the GH¢25 voucher should be refunded. Anything other than this amounts to ‘a cheat disguised as a voucher’,” he stated.
The media personality is calling on the GES, the Ministry of Education, and other relevant authorities to explain the basis for the charge.
Specifically, he wants to know who authorised it, why it was imposed, and who benefits from the arrangement.
Kofi Tei insisted that public institutions should support citizens rather than impose additional financial burdens on them.
The development has sparked public debate online, with many applicants also questioning the transparency of the fee.
