President John Dramani Mahama has called on African leaders to take bold and urgent action to achieve Universal Health Coverage and end preventable diseases across the continent.

Speaking at the opening of the African Union Extraordinary Summit on Health in Accra, President Mahama said Africa’s modern struggle is no longer only against poverty and inequality, but also against diseases that continue to limit the potential of millions.

“We have gathered here because we are the front line of this liberation struggle. We are the generals of the Continent’s Battalion of Change Seekers,” he stated.

The President urged leaders to pursue home-grown solutions, strengthen health systems, expand access to quality healthcare, and mobilize more investment in the sector.

He stressed that the success of the summit must be measured by real outcomes: better-equipped health facilities, improved access to medicines, timely diagnosis, and better care for mothers and children.

The AU summit is expected to deliver renewed commitments to end AIDS and tuberculosis, improve maternal health, and advance equitable healthcare* for all Africans.
