Two men have been arrested in Kumasi after police intercepted a large consignment of suspected narcotic drugs concealed in fertilizer sacks at the Asawase Market.
The suspects have been identified as Osman Bassein, 37, and *Mohammed Abdul-Razak, 38.
According to a statement from the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the arrest was made on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, during a joint intelligence-led operation by the Manhyia District Police Command, Manhyia Divisional CID, and the Zongo Police Station.
A press release signed by Supt. Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs Unit, said police acted on credible intelligence that illegal substances were being transported through the market.
During a search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, officers retrieved 13 fertilizer sacks. An inspection revealed that second-hand clothing had been used to conceal 100 compressed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be narcotics.
The exhibits were photographed at the scene and have been secured for forensic examination.
Both suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations and will be processed according to law.
The Regional Command commended the public for the timely information and urged citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities to police on toll-free lines 18555, 191, or 112.
