The Central Tongu Constituency ambulance, which had been out of service for several months due to mechanical faults, has officially been handed back to the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) of the Ghana National Ambulance Service at Adidome after undergoing full repairs.
The repair works were fully funded by Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, Mamadrapey III, together with the Council of Elders of the TOH/TOVIE Clan, who chose to put the health and safety of the people above the financial cost involved.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V emphasized that the health and wellbeing of the people remain a top priority for the traditional leadership. He noted that chiefs have a responsibility to support the development of their communities, particularly in critical sectors such as health and education.
According to him, the decision to repair the ambulance was taken immediately after learning that it had been grounded for months, leaving the district without a vital emergency response vehicle.
“When you help your community, you are ultimately helping yourself,” the Paramount Chief stated, adding that ambulances play a life-saving role by ensuring patients receive urgent medical attention during emergencies.
He stressed that no one can predict when an emergency will occur, and the restored ambulance could one day save the life of a loved one from any family within Central Tongu and the Mafi Traditional Area.
On behalf of the chiefs and the people, Togbe officially handed the ambulance back to the Ghana National Ambulance Service, expressing confidence that it would continue to serve the district effectively. He also assured the public that the traditional leadership remains committed to supporting healthcare delivery whenever the need arises.
The Paramount Chief further disclosed that other health initiatives, including the Health Kiosk project and ongoing improvements at the hospital, are progressing steadily and will soon be commissioned.
The ceremony was attended by the Central Tongu District Director of Health Services, Mr. Matthew Ayamba Adam, respected stool fathers, chiefs, officials of the Ghana National Ambulance Service, EMT staff, and members of the community, all of whom commended the traditional leadership for its timely intervention in restoring this critical emergency service for the people of Central Tongu.
