Juapong – [16th July, 2026]
Education stakeholders in Juapong are calling for urgent action over the relocation of the Juapong Market to the premises of the Roman Catholic Basic School, saying it is affecting teaching and learning.
The SISO for Juapong Circuit B Schools, Rev. Frank Sesi, said the noise from traders, vehicles, and motorbikes has become a major distraction in classrooms.
“I would have loved it if the market were relocated elsewhere,” he stated.
He added that neither the District Assembly nor the Ghana Education Service consulted any of the SISOs before the decision was taken.
“I will be happy if the authorities reconsider and move the market from the school park to a place where noise will not be a challenge to daily academic activities,”* Rev. Sesi appealed.
“Students Will Absent Themselves To Hawk”
Sir Prince Edem, a teacher at Methodist Basic School, also raised concern.
He said both students and teachers are suffering from divided attention, and warned of poor attendance in the coming weeks.
“Most of them will absent themselves from school and go to the market to hawk,” he said.
Proposed Solution: One Market Day
Sir Prince disagreed with suggestions from some parents and authorities to *close school every market day*.
Instead, he proposed that the District Assembly reduce market days to only Saturday instead of Wednesday and Saturday.
“If the market day is set to Saturday alone, students will have a proper learning environment from Monday to Friday,” he suggested.
Both Rev. Sesi and Sir Prince are urging the District Assembly and stakeholders to reconsider the current arrangement to protect education in Juapong.
