The Volta Regional Police Command has eradicated approximately eight acres of suspected Indian hemp farms located in Peki Dzake, as part of its intensified efforts to combat the cultivation and trafficking of illicit drugs within the region.

This operation was executed by personnel from the Command’s Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLU), following the acquisition of intelligence regarding illegal narcotics cultivation in the area.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Richard Dotse Gablah, Director of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit, informed the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the extent of the cultivation discovered underscores the ongoing challenge posed by illegal drug farming in the Volta region.

He stated that the Police Command will continue to conduct intelligence-led operations and surveillance to identify, apprehend, and prosecute individuals involved in the cultivation, distribution, and trafficking of narcotic substances.

DSP Gablah urged members of the public to assist in the fight against illicit drugs by providing credible information regarding suspicious activities within their communities.

He assured the public that all information received would be handled with the utmost confidentiality.

DSP Gablah reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding communities from the detrimental effects of illicit drugs and encouraged residents to collaborate with the Police in efforts to reduce drug-related crimes in the region.

He noted that this operation is part of the ongoing initiatives by the Ghana Police Service to suppress illegal drug cultivation and trafficking, thereby enhancing public safety.

The Volta Regional Police Command reiterated its resolve to intensify operations against illicit drug activities as part of its measures to uphold peace, law, and order in the region.
