In an effort to enhance inter-agency collaboration and improve emergency preparedness within the Komenda Edina Egyafo Abirim (KEEA) municipality in the Central Region, personnel from the KEEA Ambulance Station, led by SAEMT David Akwesi Sekyere, participated in a mass casualty incident (MCI) simulation exercise organized by the Elmina Government Hospital.
The primary objective of the exercise was to evaluate emergency preparedness and identify potential gaps during a mass casualty incident. Participants included representatives from various agencies such as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), and the National Ambulance Service (NAS).
The simulation occurred along the Cape Coast – Takoradi Highway, where volunteers assisted in the rescue efforts, attending to a total of 35 victims who sustained varying degrees of injuries, ranging from moderate to severe.
Victims received initial treatment on-site from NAS personnel before being transported to the Elmina Government Hospital for further management and care.
Dr. John Asare Dadzie Mensah, the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, expressed gratitude to all participating agencies and encouraged them to apply the lessons and skills acquired during the exercise in the event of any future mass casualty incidents within the district.
