Members, branch executives, and stakeholders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency have formally requested the Eastern Regional Secretariat to promptly remove Alhaji Sumaila Mahama from his position as the Regional Representative overseeing the ongoing branch elections in the area.

In a petition directed to the Regional Secretariat and the Regional Elections Directorate in Koforidua, the group has accused Alhaji Sumaila Mahama of actions that contravene the party’s election guidelines and the principles of free, fair, and transparent internal democracy. The petitioners outlined five primary grounds for their demand for his removal.

They alleged significant violations of party election guidelines, including the improper composition of election committees, the participation of ineligible candidates, and the unauthorized addition of names to branch registers. Additionally, they accused him of intimidating and threatening members who expressed concerns.

“Party members exercising their constitutional right to petition or voice grievances have reportedly faced verbal threats and acts of intimidation aimed at silencing dissent,” the petition asserted.

The group further alleged bias and partiality in the execution of his supervisory responsibilities, claiming that his actions have demonstrated a clear preference for certain candidates and factions.

They emphasized that his conduct has undermined the integrity of the party’s internal democracy and has eroded trust in the credibility of the electoral process.

The petitioners referenced a specific incident on June 30, 2026, during which elections could not be conducted at the Lucky Day 1 and 2 branches because, as they contend, Alhaji Sumaila Mahama refused to permit a contest for the Women Organizer position and instead sought to impose a candidate to run unopposed.

The group is urging the Regional Secretariat and Elections Directorate to immediately recall and replace Alhaji Sumaila Mahama with a neutral and impartial representative. They are also requesting the suspension of the current branch elections in Lower Manya Krobo until a new supervisor is appointed and procedural irregularities are reviewed.

Additional demands include a formal inquiry into the conduct of the Regional Representative and a reaffirmation to members that they may report grievances without fear of reprisal.

The petitioners have expressed their unwavering commitment to the NDC and to ensuring credible internal democracy, underscoring the necessity for immediate corrective measures to safeguard the integrity of the elections and promote party unity in anticipation of the 2028 elections.

Copies of the petition have been forwarded to the National Elections Directorate and the Constituency Elections Committee.
