Former Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng asserts that a deficiency in team spirit was the primary reason for the Black Stars’ elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following their 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.

In an interview with SBS Sport after Ghana’s exit, Boateng analyzed the team’s performance and emphasized that unity, rather than mere talent, distinguishes successful tournament teams from those that do not advance.

Ghana’s World Cup campaign concluded in Kansas City when John Arias netted the sole goal of the match, propelling Colombia into the Round of 16.

Boateng remarked that establishing a solid foundation for a successful tournament run proved challenging, as head coach Carlos Queiroz assumed his role only shortly before the competition commenced.

“It is the absence of team spirit, which I highlighted before the tournament. If Ghana is to cultivate that team spirit, it will be a difficult task, particularly because the coach was appointed just a month before. However, fostering that team spirit is essential.”
