The construction of the proposed School of Health Sciences at Tongor Tsanakpe in the South Dayi District is progressing steadily, bringing the district closer to realizing its long-held aspiration of hosting a tertiary institution.

The Volta Regional Political Coordinator, Honorable Ben-Habib Sikiru Abibu, recently visited the project site to inspect the ongoing construction and assess the progress achieved since the project’s inception in April 2026.

The project is funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and supervised by EnvironDev Ghana Ltd. It is anticipated to be completed within the next 18 months, with three contractors concurrently working on different components to ensure timely completion.

ED Thorntons is responsible for constructing two hostel blocks, a lecture hall complex, and a two-storey Library/ICT Block with an auditorium. Gadol Construction is managing the construction of the Principal’s residence, the proposed Vice Principal’s residence, a three-storey two-bedroom staff flat, ten two-unit two-bedroom staff bungalows, and a two-storey administration-library block.

KE-Works is undertaking the construction of a three-storey 18-unit merged classroom block, a skills laboratory with equipment, a single-storey infirmary, and other external works.

During the inspection, stakeholders expressed satisfaction with the project’s pace and noted that the institution would significantly expand access to tertiary education and health training opportunities in the district and beyond.

The project has been widely recognized as a significant developmental milestone for South Dayi, attributed to the efforts of the South Dayi Member of Parliament, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, and the District Chief Executive, Honorable Courage Kwame Kokroko, whose advocacy and dedication were instrumental in securing the project.

Upon completion, the School of Health Sciences is expected to enhance healthcare education, create employment opportunities, and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the district.
