The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Amansie Central, Hon. Emmanuel Obeng-Agyemang, has reaffirmed the critical role of agriculture in Ghana’s economy, stressing that farmers must be supported and appreciated for their contribution to national development and food security.

As part of efforts to enhance agricultural productivity in the district, the Assembly distributed farm inputs to 150 farmers during a ceremony held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the courtyard of the District Agriculture Department.

Each beneficiary received two bags of fertilizer, two bottles of weedicide, three pairs of Wellington boots, and two cutlasses to support their farming activities.

Speaking on the intervention, Hon. Obeng-Agyemang emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of Ghana’s economy and should continue to receive the attention and investment it deserves.

He indicated that the initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of strengthening food security and promoting practical agricultural education as a means of improving livelihoods and sustaining economic growth.

“Farmers should not in any way be taken for granted at all. By equipping them with the needed assistance in their field of work, we are enabling them to grow nutritious food for various homes, generate small-scale income to support families, and teach our young people valuable farming skills that will serve them throughout their lives,” he stated.

The DCE noted that supporting farmers with essential inputs not only helps to increase yields but also contributes to building resilient farming communities capable of meeting the food needs of the growing population.

Beneficiary farmers expressed gratitude for the support, describing it as timely assistance that would help reduce production costs and improve their productivity during the farming season.

The intervention forms part of the district’s broader commitment to promoting agriculture, empowering local farmers, and contributing to national efforts aimed at achieving sustainable food production and improved livelihoods.
