A man in his late thirties, Stephen, also known as Mandela, has been arrested by the Kasoa Divisional Police Command for allegedly defiling a 3-year-old girl.
The suspect is said to have lured the victim into his room when tenants had left the house.
Speaking to Crime Check, the mother of the victim said she received a call from the child’s grandmother while at work. The grandmother was asking about the whereabouts of the child, whom she had left in her care.
The child had been sick for some days and had not been able to attend school.
According to the mother, she was later informed that the child had been found in Stephen’s room.
Immediately after leaving the suspect’s room, the victim reportedly told her parents that he had defiled her.
After examining the victim and noticing bruises on her private parts, the family took her to a health facility where the assault was confirmed.
Before the incident, the victim had reportedly complained of itching in her private parts, but the family thought it was due to excessive intake of sweets. Following the incident, they now suspect the act may have been ongoing.
The mother added that there have been instances where the suspect lured children of other tenants into his room. She alleged that she once witnessed a parent warning him not to keep her child in his room again.
The incident has caused the family emotional distress, and they are pleading for justice.
