The Abotia Dorfor D/A School in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region is in dire need of a classroom block for its Junior High School (JHS) department, despite recording excellent academic performance.
According to Rev. Frank Sesi, the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) for Juapong Circuit B, the school is located in a deprived community but continues to excel in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Abotia School
The Abotia Dorfor D/A School, in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region, is in dire need of a classroom block for its Junior High School (JHS) department, despite recording excellent academic performance over the years.
He disclosed that, from 2022 up to 2025, based on available BECE results analyses, the school consistently scored 100% — a remarkable performance that even well-endowed urban schools struggle to attain.
However, he said the school’s major challenge is infrastructure. Pupils are currently studying under a dilapidated shed without proper protection. After school hours, cattle, sheep and fowls enter the structure to sleep and defecate, making the environment unsafe for teaching and learning.
Rev. Sesi added that teachers are committed and ready to teach, but lack the needed resources. There is also no teachers’ bungalow, forcing teachers to travel long distances daily at high cost and stress.
He is therefore appealing to the North Tongu District Assembly, NGOs and philanthropists to come to the aid of the school and help build a proper JHS block.
He commended the teachers and students for their dedication, noting that despite the challenges, the school continues to record 100% pass rate in the BECE every year.
Chief Appeals For Support
The Chief of the community, Torgbe Korku Mensah, has also appealed to government to intervene.
According to him, even the existing primary block was built by an individual who came to undertake a project on Abotia land, and since then government has not carried out any renovation.
He said doors and windows cannot be locked, allowing unauthorized persons to enter the classrooms to engage in all manner of activities.
He is therefore calling on the District Assembly to urgently come to their aid.
Abotia Dorfor D/A School is located in the Ayimagonu Electoral Area in the North Tongu District.
