The School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) for Juapong Circuit B Schools, Rev. Frank Sesi, has lamented what he describes as government’s neglect of teachers’ demands.
Speaking on Aguadze Morning Programme on Friday, September 25, 2026, with Dr. Ageorgia on the topic of zero percent performance recorded by 15 schools in the Volta Region, Rev. Sesi said lack of motivation for teachers is a major cause of poor academic performance.
According to him, teachers are the most pitiable public servants in the country.
“When nurses and doctors go on strike, government quickly intervenes because the impact is seen immediately. But when teachers go on strike over lack of demands, government doesn’t mind because the effects are not immediate,” he said.
He explained that the consequences of neglecting teachers are now manifesting, with students failing examinations to the extent that they cannot progress to tertiary institutions.
“The effect did not start today. It started long ago, but nobody cares, including government,” he added.
SISOs Working Without Allowance
Rev. Sesi further disclosed that even SISOs themselves are not given allowances. They have no car maintenance support and have to fuel and maintain their own cars and motorbikes before going round to supervise schools.
He said this situation should serve as a wake-up call for government to prioritize teachers — the very people who taught everyone to become who they are today.
Parents Must Play Their Role
He also advised parents not to leave the training of children solely to teachers. He urged parents to ensure their wards study at home, learn how to read, and provide them with the needed learning materials.
He called on traditional leaders, the Christian Council and individuals to support efforts at building a better future for education.
Rev. Sesi cautioned that if the current situation continues, Ghana may struggle in the next 10 years to get competent future leaders to occupy public offices, hence government must take swift action.
