KUMASI – The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has inspected the stalled Kejetia Market Phase II and Krofrom Market projects in Kumasi as part of efforts to address challenges delaying their completion.
The Minister undertook the inspection on Sunday, August 30, 2026, together with the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang, Apagyahene Oheneba Owusu Afriyie IV, and some heads of departments of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
The visit was aimed at assessing the current state of the two major projects and identifying practical measures to facilitate their resumption and eventual completion.
The Kejetia Market Phase II and Krofrom Market projects are considered critical infrastructure for Kumasi, particularly in providing improved trading facilities, easing congestion, and supporting economic activities within the metropolis.
During the inspection, the delegation examined the progress of work done so far and the challenges that have stalled the projects.
The move forms part of broader efforts by government and the KMA to resolve outstanding issues surrounding the projects and ensure that the facilities are completed and made available for their intended purposes.
The completion of the projects is expected to provide additional market spaces, improve the trading environment for thousands of traders, and contribute significantly to the development of the Kumasi metropolis.
The Minister and the Kumasi Mayor are expected to continue engagements with relevant stakeholders to explore workable solutions to the challenges confronting the projects and pave the way for their resumption.
The inspection underscores government’s commitment to ensuring that major development projects in Kumasi are completed to serve the needs of traders, residents and the wider community.
