DAILY NEWSFLASH – The Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Maj. Gen. Maxwell Obuba Mantey, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to working with all relevant security agencies to secure Ghana’s points of entry and exit.
Speaking at the 2026 West Africa Border Security Week at Labadi Pleasure Beach Hotel, Accra on Thursday, August 13, 2026, he said continuous collaboration is critical to preventing drug trafficking and other cross-border criminal activities.
Speaking on the topic _“Strengthening Border Security through Regional Cooperation and Innovation”_, Maj. Gen. Mantey stated that “NACOC is well positioned to partner with managers of border posts to tackle and control organised crime across the continent.”
He stressed the need to strengthen regional cooperation to enhance intelligence sharing, build basic capacity, and develop interoperable systems. He added that modern crime trends require investment in intelligence, forensic capabilities, technology, and equipment beyond just physical infrastructure.
The NACOC boss also called on stakeholders to pay close attention to host communities along border posts, noting that their local knowledge is invaluable in tracking criminal networks.
“Criminal organisations do not recognise national boundaries to perpetrate their clandestine activities. We must all support efforts to curb the menace through strong collaborative efforts,” he said.
