Fiankoma, Amansie Central District – The District Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) for Amansie District, Mr. John Ankrah, has called on young people in Fiankoma and surrounding communities to prioritize education, skills development and entrepreneurship as they seek to shape the future of their area.
The call was made during the launch of the newly formed Fiankoma Youth Association (FYA) on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Fiankoma.
New Association to Drive Local Development
The Fiankoma Youth Association has been established to bring together youth and other stakeholders within the Fiankoma Electoral Area. Its mandate includes identifying development needs, initiating projects, and lobbying for government and NGO programmes that will benefit communities in the area.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Ankrah commended the founders for the initiative, describing it as a timely platform to harness the energy and ideas of young people for community development.
“Invest in Human Capital”
Addressing the gathering, the YEA Director urged the youth to focus on building themselves.
He identified four key areas young people must pay attention to: education, vocational and technical skills training, entrepreneurship, and community service.
“Your education and the skills you acquire are the greatest investments you can make. With the right knowledge and skills, you can create jobs for yourselves and contribute meaningfully to the development of Fiankoma and Amansie Central,” Mr. Ankrah stated.
Warning Against Drug Abuse
The YEA Director also cautioned the youth against substance abuse, describing it as a major threat to their future.
According to him, drug abuse can lead to poor academic performance, addiction, mental health problems, school dropouts, and in some cases, criminal activities.
“Beyond the individual, substance abuse puts pressure on families, creates insecurity, and undermines the development of our communities,” he warned.
He urged young people to make responsible choices and avoid drugs that could jeopardize their health, education and future.
Stakeholders Laud Initiative
The launch brought together key stakeholders including the Assembly Member for Fiankoma Electoral Area, the Fiankoma Odikro, the Amansie Central District Health Director, and other community leaders.
Mr. Ankrah praised the leaders for supporting the formation of the association and called for stronger collaboration between the youth, traditional authorities, and government agencies to drive development.
The event ended with renewed calls for greater youth participation in community decision-making and a push to equip young people with the skills and opportunities needed to contribute to the growth of Fiankoma and the wider Amansie Central District.
